Note: We do not recommend this loop as a one day tour, the distance by road is almost 600km.
Itinerary
Day 1: Chiang Mai - Chiangdao - Chiang Rai
Depart from Chiang Mai by road to Chiangdao Elephant Camp, where you will attend an elephant training show. Experience a fun elephant ride through surrounding jungle. After lunch, proceed by car further north to explore the rock formation of Chiangdao caves, and continue to Thaton, a small village close to the Burmese border From there take 3 hours boat trip down Maekok River to reach Chiangrai. Overnight at hotel.

Day 2 - Chiang Rai - Golden Triangle - Chiang Mai
Visit Chiang Rai town in the morning and continue to Mae Sai, on the Thai-Myanmar border. Visit the bustling border market. Optionally, cross the border and visit the Burmese town of Thachilek (subject to border opening).
After lunch depart by car to Chiangsaen, former capital of the Lanna Kingdom. Then explore the famous "Golden Triangle" where three borders meet, Thailand, Laos and Myanmar. Visit the interesting Opium Museum and ancient temple on the hill overlooking the Mekong River. Then return by road to Chiang Mai, arriving at the end of afternoon. Transfer to your hotel or airport.
